Important Changes to 4th Quarter

Mar 09, 2021

March 9, 2021

Dear Catholic High Families,

The Catholic High School of Baltimore begins the fourth quarter on Monday, March 22, 2021. As we have done throughout the school year, we are again adjusting our educational model to increase in-school learning in a safe environment. For the fourth quarter, Catholic High will offer two options for families: a four-day on-campus plan and a fully virtual plan. In addition, Wednesdays will be fully synchronous days, with instruction in all eight classes. You will receive a modified schedule for Wednesdays. Students are expected to log into their classes and remain logged in for the entire class period. Per school policy, only students who attend school on campus may participate in extra-curricular activities. This includes athletics, clubs, dances, class events and proms. It is our hope and expectation that all students will attend classes in person.

These changes are being made after consultation with educational leaders and the Archdiocese of Baltimore, which is in direct contact with Dr. Robert Redfield, formerly of the Centers of Disease Control, and are consistent with the guidance and recommendations of local, state and federal agencies. With nearly 85 percent of Catholic High’s faculty and staff having received the COVID-19 vaccine and with lower infection rates, especially among school-aged children, the school is confident that it can safely educate students in the classroom, which studies show is optimum for learning.

While we understand there may be some hesitancy about having students in school four days per week, the administration is confident in the school’s ability to provide a safe learning environment, as it has done throughout this school year. The protocols in place and the cooperation with those protocols by students, parents, faculty and staff have made our school a safe and healthy environment. We will continue to practice and enforce all safety precautions. We believe students thrive and learn best when in school together with their friends, classmates, and teachers on their beloved campus.

All parents must email Mrs. Linda DeRemigis at lderemigis@thecatholichighschool.org to state their intent for the fourth quarter by Friday, March 12, 2021.

Parents of students who are absent must contact the Main Office by 7:50 AM each morning by calling 410-732-6200 x1210. Students who are absent on campus may not attend classes virtually. Students who are virtual must have a parent contact the Main Office if they are going to be absent.

Please call or email if you have questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

Dr. Barbara D. Nazelrod
President
The Catholic High School of Baltimore

Mrs. Sharon Johnston, M.A.
